Different Dimension "Orion Nebula"

Sometimes a beautiful little gem of a polish sits in my untried pile for far too long, eventually getting buried and forgotten. As part of an effort to help these polishes no longer feel abandoned I think I'm going to start doing a weekly "untried" post. How does "Untried Tuesday" sound?

The featured polish this week is "Orion Nebula" by Different Dimension. Circle glitter has definitely been one of my favorite new trends with polish lately. Orion Nebula features a black jelly base and three different sizes of magenta circle glitters, including the stunning MEGA CIRCLES. Which are also holographic.

Yeah. Just look at that bottle packed full of circle-y goodness. I did leave the bottle upside down for a while before applying it and, at first, had no problem pulling out the large circle glitters. I did find that half way through apply, I had to close up the bottle, turn it upside down, and let it sit for some more because I was no longer pulling anything but the tiny ones.

For some reason I decided to use Orly "Royal Velvet" (a dark purple with a blue duochrome color shift) as a base for this, thinking that it might add an extra level of interest to the finished look. Well, I was wrong! Two coats of Orion Nebula was enough for the base to build up to opacity and completely cover the purple. On that note, the base did make me a little bit nervous because I had to pay close attention to not go over the glitters too much (especially the mega circles) and cover them in the black base. I did a lot of dabbing and positioning of glitters, mostly because I'm picky and wanted a good mix on each nail.

I finished things off with two coats of Seche Vite just to help smooth everything out. I did find that adding the top coat did seem to brighten everything up and make the magenta stand out a bit more.

So what do you think? Despite it having a slightly tricky formula, I am absolutely in love with this polish! The name is fitting as it definitely reminds me of space. Can you imagine this as a base for a galaxy manicure? I've even already experimented by layering a coat of China Glaze "Fairy Dust" between two coats of Orion Nebula on a swatch wheel!
